March 28, 2024 – The Huron-Bruce New Democratic Party (NDP) Riding Association held its annual general meeting via Zoom on Thursday March 21, 2024. The meeting began with greetings from Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, who emphasized the importance of local riding associations and the work they do to bring attention to local issues.
Angela Keeley was nominated and re-elected for her second term as the President and Nick McGregor was duly nominated and re-elected as Vice President for the joint Riding Executive (Federal and Provincial NDP).
Keeley and McGregor spoke openly about their plans for the future of the NDP in Huron-Bruce, looking to their executive and constituents to guide them in raising concerns of the riding both within the NDP and to a broader audience in both Queen’s Park and in Ottawa.
Coming from a farming background and currently working in mental health and wellness, Keeley identified her intentions to focus on more support to protect important agricultural land from urban expansion and legislative support for our farmers, expanding support for publicly-owned nuclear power when it is used to substantially replace fossil fuels. Keeley also intends to advocate for more senior and rural healthcare, and youth mental health and wellness.
McGregor, with a background in education, described his intentions to continue to build visibility and engagement within the Huron-Bruce riding and to identify a specific focus on funding safe and healthy classrooms, including the 16 billion dollar backlog of repairs needed in schools across Ontario.
The riding association celebrated Federal NDP wins regarding dental care, federal anti-scab legislation, and pharmacare. These wins for Canadians save families money, and strengthen workers’ voices in their workplaces.
