Nick McGregor Nominated as the Ontario NDP Candidate for Huron – Bruce

VARNA New Democrats are proud to announce that Nick McGregor, a lifelong Huron County resident, dedicated educator, and community advocate will be the NDP candidate for Huron-Bruce in the upcoming provincial election.

“For too long, people in Huron-Bruce have been left behind by governments that don’t listen,” says McGregor. “After seven years of Doug Ford and nearly 14 years of Lisa Thompson, life has only gotten harder for families in our communities. It is time for real change.”

McGregor understands the challenges rural communities face because he has lived them. As a high school teacher in Goderich and a proud member of OSSTF District 8, he has spent his career standing up for students, educators, and families. He knows that after years of Conservative cuts, our schools are underfunded, emergency rooms are closing, and farmers are struggling to keep up with growing costs.

“The Ontario NDP has a plan to fix what is broken,” says McGregor. “We will invest in our hospitals, hire the doctors and nurses our communities desperately need, and ensure emergency rooms stay open. We will stand up for farmers, address the challenges of protecting farmland and agribusiness, and ensure rural Ontario thrives.”

The Ontario NDP, led by Marit Stiles, is ready to fight for a better future. Together, we will build more homes, strengthen healthcare, protect agriculture, and make life affordable.

Keeley and McGregor secure a second term at Huron-Bruce NDP annual general meeting.

March 28, 2024 – The Huron-Bruce New Democratic Party (NDP) Riding Association held its annual general meeting via Zoom on Thursday March 21, 2024. The meeting began with greetings from Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, who emphasized the importance of local riding associations and the work they do to bring attention to local issues.

Angela Keeley was nominated and re-elected for her second term as the President and Nick McGregor was duly nominated and re-elected as Vice President for the joint Riding Executive (Federal and Provincial NDP).

Keeley and McGregor spoke openly about their plans for the future of the NDP in Huron-Bruce, looking to their executive and constituents to guide them in raising concerns of the riding both within the NDP and to a broader audience in both Queen’s Park and in Ottawa.

Coming from a farming background and currently working in mental health and wellness, Keeley identified her intentions to focus on more support to protect important agricultural land from urban expansion and legislative support for our farmers, expanding support for publicly-owned nuclear power when it is used to substantially replace fossil fuels. Keeley also intends to advocate for more senior and rural healthcare, and youth mental health and wellness.

McGregor, with a background in education, described his intentions to continue to build visibility and engagement within the Huron-Bruce riding and to identify a specific focus on funding safe and healthy classrooms, including the 16 billion dollar backlog of repairs needed in schools across Ontario.

The riding association celebrated Federal NDP wins regarding dental care, federal anti-scab legislation, and pharmacare. These wins for Canadians save families money, and strengthen workers’ voices in their workplaces.
